Summary of Investigation: Welcome to the investigation page maintained by Shepherd, Finkelman, Miller & Shah, LLP ("SFMS") for its investigation of certain top-loading washing machines manufactured by LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc. ("LG"), and sold under LG and Sears Holdings Corp. ("Sears") labels. Specifically, SFMS is investigating problems with the washing machines, including that the "extra high" spin cycle may be defective and cause the machines to violently shake and may cause the drum to come loose during use. Some consumers have experienced ripped clothing, the machines shutting off mid-cycle and draining all the water. Further, some consumers have had software updates from LG and Sears, however, such updates have led to other problems with the machines, in that following the upgrade, the spin cycle purportedly does not spin fast enough to remove excess water from clothing. Specific models affected by these issues include three LG models (WT5001CW, WT5101HW, and WT5101HV; serial number range-002KW*** through 111KW***) and three Kenmore Elite models (29002, 29272, and 29278; serial number range-005KW*** through 111KW***). Washers affected by these issues were believed to be sold between April 2010 to December 2012.
