Employment discrimination remains a big problem

Despite the fact that there are many federal and state laws to protect against employment discrimination, this remains a big problem throughout the country.

Some of the many federal laws that are currently in place to protect against this include:

-- Title VII of the Civil Rights Act

-- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

-- Equal Pay Act

-- Age Discrimination in Employment Act

-- Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

-- False Claims Act

Some of the most common forms of employment discrimination include:

-- Discrimination on the basis of color, race, age, religion, gender or ethnicity

-- Disability discrimination, including a failure to accommodate

-- Sexual harassment

-- Pregnancy discrimination

-- Wrongful discharge

-- Whistleblower retaliation

Discrimination can mean many different things. This includes but is not limited to termination, layoffs, disciplinary measures, job duties and pay.

At our law firm, we know that there is no place in the world for employment discrimination. We also know that this remains an issue, as some companies don't realize that it's against the law.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of employment discrimination, do these things:

-- Make note of exactly what happened

-- Collect as much proof as possible, such as emails that backup your claim

-- Learn more about your legal rights

You have the right to work in a discrimination-free environment. If you run into any issue with this, you shouldn't sit back and hope for the best. You should take action by learning more about what happened and focusing on your legal rights.
